Aden have Officially Started their Carbon Offsetting Journey

Aden have Offset 100 Tonne CO2 using a verified Carbon Offsetting Project.

Aden Contracting recognises that the energy, products and services it consumes cause the emission of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere, which is a contributing factor to climate change. As part of our overall sustainability goals, we are committed to continual improvement in the management and reduction of diesel consumption and carbon emissions. Carbon neutrality is achieved by calculating a carbon footprint and reducing it to zero through a combination of efficiency measures in-house and supporting external emission reduction projects.

Carbon Management and Diesel Reduction is important to Aden, as the built environment is a major contributing factor to carbon emissions. As a company we understand the negative impact the sector we work in has on the environment. Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions from diesel engines, through improved fuel economy and idle reduction strategies, can help address climate change, improve our nation's energy security, and strengthen our economy.

Aden will be carrying out quarterly emission reporting and has targeted to offset 25% of our CO2 emissions per quarter.

Aden have looked into investing in verified high quality international carbon reduction projects to offset our own emissions. These projects provide additional social and community benefits in addition to high quality carbon offsetting. We believe this a way for Aden to go further than just offsetting as well as helping with our ambitions. We will be investing in high quality international carbon reduction projects, with the intention of making the business carbon neutral by 2030 and also providing additional benefits such as biodiversity, education, jobs, food security, clean drinking water and heath & well-being in developing countries.

We will be investing in a different project that strongly contributes to sustainable development per quarter with carbonfootprint.com.

For the last quarter we have chosen;

Katingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation Project in Indonesia

The Katingan Restoration and Conservation Project protects and restores 149,800 hectares of peatland ecosystems, to offer local communities sustainable sources of income, and to tackle global climate change. The project lies within the districts of Katingan and Kotawaringin Timur in Central Kalimantan Province, and covers one of the largest remaining intact peat swamp forests in Indonesia.

Objectives of the project includes:

•GHG emission reductions through avoided deforestation and forest degradation, prevention of peat drainage and fires.

•Enhance quality of life and reduce poverty of the project-zone communities by creating sustainable livelihood options and economic opportunities.

•To strengthen community resilience by increasing capacity to cope with socio-ecological risks.

All the information on this project was supplied to us by carbonfootprint.com on their offsetting proposal to Aden Contracting.
