Project Description
Aden Contracting is delivering the groundworks package on behalf of our client Willmott Dixon for the expansion and redevelopment of Avon Valley School. The project comprises a 4,036m², three-storey extension to the existing main school building, providing a purpose-built science department with 14 new classrooms, a dedicated dining facility, new indoor sports hall, IT facilities and additional staff accommodation. The former caretaker’s house will also be extended and reconfigured to create a flexible learning hub, replacing the school’s existing modular provision. The overall development will enable the school to increase its capacity by approximately 300 pupils.
Aden’s scope of works includes extensive cut and fill operations to achieve new site levels, earthworks and imported sub-base, foundations, reinforced concrete works and construction of the ground floor slab. Our works also incorporate underpinning and complex substructure interfaces with the existing school building.
The infrastructure element of the package includes the installation of new site-wide foul and surface water drainage systems, incorporating a large attenuation tank, alongside the diversion and removal of existing drainage and connections into the live network. Aden is also undertaking service diversions and the installation of new services, together with retaining wall structures, access ramps, entrance stairs and associated external hard and soft landscaping.
A key consideration throughout the project is the delivery of these works within a live school environment, requiring careful planning, phasing and coordination with Willmott Dixon and the wider project team to maintain safe access, minimise disruption and ensure the school can continue to operate safely throughout the construction programme.
